Why we picked it
A one-person logic puzzle: twelve shaped pieces, a board, and a guide with 500 challenges that set up a few pieces and ask you to fit the rest, in flat and three-dimensional layouts. This edition adds a built-in timer, so a child who has done the basic Kanoodle can race the clock against their own earlier times.
Why it made our list: it is a pocket-sized puzzle a nine-year-old will pick up on a car journey and put down forty minutes later, it needs no partner and no screen, and it was a 2025 Toy of the Year finalist in the grown-up category, which tells you it does not run out.
Before you buy: the listed age is 7 and up. The timer takes two AAA batteries, not included; the puzzle works without it. The pieces are small; store them in the case.
Before you buy
- Check the age grade on the box; it can differ from ours.
- If younger children share the room, check for small parts.
- Look up the model number at cpsc.gov/Recalls before first use.
