Why we picked it
Two hundred and thirteen ordinary LEGO bricks in a yellow case with a handle, with a few wheels, eyes and windows mixed in, and some simple picture ideas to start from. No set to finish: it is the box you build whatever you want from, and the case means it goes to grandma's and comes back with its pieces.
Why it made our list: after the first LEGO sets have been built and broken up, a plain brick box is what keeps a six- to eight-year-old building on their own, and Oppenheim Toy Portfolio gave this one a 2025 Platinum Award.
Before you buy: LEGO's age grade is 4 and up, and the bricks are standard LEGO size, which means small parts; keep them off the floor when children under three are around. The case has sorting compartments and measures about 10 by 11 inches; a spare tub helps more once other sets get mixed in.
