No confirmed recall for this toy.

Why we picked it
A wooden bench where a toddler hammers balls through holes and hears them ring down a xylophone on the way out. The xylophone slides out and can be played on its own with the mallet, so it is two toys: one for the whacking stage and one for the making-noise-on-purpose stage that follows.
Why it made our list: hammering is the thing one-year-olds most want to do, and this gives them a version with a result (a sound, a ball rolling out) instead of a dent in the furniture. No batteries, no setup.
Before you buy: Hape's age grade is 12 months to 3 years. The three balls are sized for this age and roll under things; count them at tidy-up time. It is loud in the way wooden toys are loud.
Before you buy
- Check the age grade on the box; it can differ from ours.
- If younger children share the room, check for small parts.
- Look up the model number at cpsc.gov/Recalls before first use.
