Why we picked it
Painting without the clean-up. The paints in this set only show up on Color Wonder paper, so a three-year-old can paint on the sofa arm and nothing happens. The brush lights up in the colour you dip it in, which children find close to magic.
Why it made our list: it gives an age that wants to paint constantly a way to do it unsupervised, in the car or at a restaurant table, and it was a 2025 Toy of the Year finalist in the preschool category.
Before you buy: the age grade is 3 and up and the brush takes three AA batteries, not included. The set has six paints and 18 sheets; the paper and paint are consumables, so look at the refill pads at the same time, because the set's own paper goes fast. The brush switches itself off after five minutes.
